Most art teachers will understand the great importance for the practical knowledge that a student can acquire as a student of art. It has thus become very common practice for art teachers to make use of slides, photographs and websites on the internet to better acquaint their students with the art that they are teaching; however the importance that actual physical visits to see art holds should never be underestimated by teacher or student. It is very unfortunate in certain circumstances where students because of a variety of causes are actually stuck with just studying art books and looking at photographs and prints of art rather than any actual physical pieces.

The reason for this could be because of either the lack of interest in the teacher or could even be because of the location of the students; it is highly possible that these students are located in a rural place where art galleries are either non-existent or very very far away.

The only way that an art school can actually help their students in the right direction of art education is by ensuring that they either take their students to see art or get the art to them. So those kinds of schools as mentioned above that are located very far away from an art gallery should perhaps arrange for a few art works to be either brought to the school for the students to observe or there is another common practice that such a place could resort to- they could hire an in-house artist who would be there for the students’ observation for a long time; right through the planning process to the outcome of the art. If the art teacher himself or herself is one such artist then this should not be a difficult curriculum to achieve, but the selection of the artist again should be done well so that only a capable artist is nominated.

The best and even the easiest way however to introduce art students to the beauty of a finished art piece is by taking them to a museum or an art gallery to observe art. Taking art trips together is the only effective way by which an art teacher can ensure that a well rounded course in art is delivered to all their students. Even though a trip to an art museum might actually seem fruitless on the surface, this can be an inspiration to many students and there is definitely a lot to learn and see for the young mind, something that cannot be achieved by merely staring at a photograph over the internet to listening to art theories. Also, witnessing art in the presence of an art teacher who would be able to guide the students in the right direction concerning the way the art should be interpreted and what to take away from the art as inspiration is also something that will be very helpful for a student.
